I stopped eating chocolate because of high levels of lead and cadmium found in many brands. How do I balance the risk/benefit?

I hear you. I stopped consuming cinnamon after the FDA put out a warning that lead levels were found in certain cinnamon products. Personally, I follow the FDA guidelines when it comes to this. So once these concerns have been met and addressed, the FDA usually will put out a report documenting the steps that were taken. I'd recommend researching it a bit more and see if you feel safe consuming them. I have not seen any concerning reports recently about lead in chocolate!

Geesh! I had no idea they found lead in cinnamon products. My ex always made cinnamon sugar toast, cinnamon sprinkled on apples and ALWAYS puts cinnamon in his oatmeal, which he eats almost daily. When he asked for divorce I told him he might be crazy. Now reading this I wonder if he is?

Also, I looked at the FDA statement and the McCormick brand isn’t listed. That is typically what I would buy. Thoughts?

Check article with Consumers Report on metals in chocolate.

I know eat Ghirardelli’s 72% intense dark chocolate. I’d been eating a higher % dark chocolate, but they were all extremely high in lead and cadmium.

Re movement and depression: When I'm feeling down, I put on some music and dance to it, even though I really don't feel like dancing. It's amazing how quickly dancing elevates my spirits. That simple experiment demonstrates how the mind-body connection is a two-way street.

Re dark chocolate: From what I've read (and confirmed through my own experimentation), 85 percent cocoa seems to be optimum. Consumer Reports suggests which brands should be eaten with caution due to heavy metals (and also names the risky cinnamon brands).

Dancing is the best 💃🏽 especially when I just don’t have enough energy to bundle up for a nice cold walk.

Sometimes I'll listen to lively music while walking, and synchronize my steps with the beat, so it's almost like dancing. Being out in nature while walking is also good for elevating one's mood, unless the weather is lousy.

I saw a Headache specialist (Neurologist) probably 15 years ago. He told me to eat dark chocolate 3x a day. He said a piece about thumb size and the catch is, above that 70% cocoa level starts to get pretty bitter tasting. Walgreens has it up to 90%. The Hersey Dark Chocolate is on the same isle so don’t be fooled into buying that. This Dr also told me to sleep in the dark for 8 hours. If I couldn’t sleep just lay there in the dark no artificial lighting and no phone. It makes sense when you think about our ancestors without electricity for thousands of years
