Fabulous news about your practice! I wish there were more holistic practitioners that educate as well as prescribe. Good for you and thank you so much for the education you provide through your newsletter & congrats on your new home, so exciting. Thankfully I'm a kefir lover & make my own kombucha- its fun and I get attached to the scoby, lol. I'm first in line as a potential patient :)

How exciting?!?! I had recently heard about probiotics and was still confused, but you described everything in such an understandable way and I love the examples. Thank you for this important newsletter.

Dr. Goodman,

Thank you for your blog. If I am still in CA in July, I want to schedule a consultation with you. I have a quick question: because I have CKD, I cannot eat dairy products. What probiotic alternatives would you recommend? Many thanks!

Thanks so much for your kind message Martha! I’m not able to provide personalized medical advice on here, but my telehealth practice will be opening soon for patients in California and Florida. If you’re still in California this summer, I’d be happy to connect through a formal consultation. Thanks again for your support. Hope to meet you soon!

Congratulations! I love your wholistic approach to mental heath. Please check out Dr. James Greenblatt, a functional psychiatrist. He has written several books and has a fellowship for health professionals. I believe you will find his knowledge and experience to be very supportive of your work.

Congratulations! This will be a welcome service to many!! Do you plan to take any insurance? Do you work with people struggling with Substance Use Disorder? Thanks!!

Jake Goodman, MD, MBA's avatar

Thanks for reaching out Leslie! I plan to be working with people who experience substance use disorders as part of my practice. I won’t be accepting insurance at this time, but I can provide a “superbill” - a special receipt that can be submitted to insurance for possible reimbursement. When my practice opens, feel free to reach out if you’d like to learn more!

Dr. Jake, there is a comprehensive telehealth website that may suit your online practice - Nous Talk. Possibly it is worth a peek.

I hope you will continue to share your valuable insight on Substack.

Enjoyed your newsletter. I had a stroke mid October. Physically no deficit. But emotionally lots of difficulty. Mood is down most of the time. Experiencing some anxiety. Hoping to find some help from reading your newsletter. I do take a probiotic supplement daily.

I have recently been told, after many Doctor's appointments and tests, that the anxiety I have in my body has caused me severe GI problems. SMH.

I have been trying to implement the things you're talking about, even before I found out that my brain is causing the problems. Bloody diarrhea included.

I'm 20% skeptical. I experienced what may have been my body ridding me of whatever was wrong several weeks ago. I dry heaved, off and on for about 30 hours. Things changed since then and I think I've been healing since. It's been 6 months and over 60 pounds weight loss. Anyway, I've been put on Ametrypeline, an antipressant for GI help. I seem to be improving slowly, even before I saw the psychiatrist, per the GI specialist. I'm hoping that it's incompetence and my anxiety doesn't have to be resolved to be over this pain in my stomach, because that is going to be a long process.
